Sabbath Rest

God commands us to rest on the Sabbath

Just as He has rested on the seventh day

So are we to do likewise

Like Father like His children

To be like Him

As we were formed after His own image

God commands us to strive to enter into His rest

The rest accomplished by His Son’s sacrifice

for us on the cross

Where our sins were totally forgiven

As the payment for our sins was

Paid in full

God had to command this Rest

For He knows us

That we are but dust

and mindless sheep

Who follow the culture around us

instead of standing against the tide of our culture

To work

To strive

To climb

And to work some more

To keep up with the Joneses

To get to the top

But He knew all of that when He formed us

He Himself came into human form

In order to help us identify with Him

Even as He identifies with us and our proclivities toward sin

For He is the Great High Priest

Who was tempted in all ways

And yet

He was without sin

So that He might be able to empathize with us

in our sinful nature

and our weaknesses

He gets it

He gets our proclivities toward sin

And yet

He still loves and embraces us

Just as we are

He calls us to approach

The Throne of Grace

With great confidence

As in

BOLDLY APPROACH

His Throne

Where He sits

Reigns

Rests

And dwells

His very presence

To receive

Mercy

And

Find grace

In our time of need

Even as we struggle with resting

He tells us to

Strive to enter

Into

His

Sabbath Rest

The Sabbath Rest that He has accomplished for us

It is finished

It is done

It is completed

Payment for our sins

The work we try to do

The accomplishments we try to achieve

He now calls us

With gentle persistence

Even as in a command

To enter in

Enter into

His

Rest

Sabbath Rest
