Heavenly Wisdom

“But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere” (James 3:17).

What is wisdom

Heavenly wisdom

There is worldly wisdom

With worldly mindset and worldly perspective

Worldly values

Which assert that it makes sense when we

Do whatever we want and enjoy

Look out for ourselves first

Eat, drink and be merry

For we only live once

Our truths are ours

Others’ truths are just fine for them

The “you do you, and I do me” mentality

Heavenly wisdom though

Is quite different

It is first of all

Pure

Without guile

Innocent

Unpolluted

Without ulterior motive

Then

Peace-loving

Seeking peace between all involved parties

Being agents of harmony

Considerate

Being thoughtful

Putting others’ needs and desires above our own

Being mindful not to cause hurt or harm to others

Submissive

Being obedient toward people over us

Being willing to yield to others

Cooperative with others

Being a good teammate

Full of mercy

Not exacting deserved punishment

Being willing to forgive the wrongs done to us

Compassionate with others’ plight even when they hurt us

Good fruit

Fruit of the Holy Spirit

Love

Joy

Peace

Patience

Kindness

Goodness

Faithfulness

Gentleness

Self-control

Impartial

No favoritism

Without bias or prejudice

Treating all parties equally and fairly

Not giving in to people who tug at our heartstrings

Sincere

Free from deceit

Free from pretense

Free from hypocrisy

Actively seek wisdom

Heavenly wisdom

To guide our decision-making

That reflects the heart of God

Bringing glory to God

Pleasing to Him

Delighting Jesus

Being hands and feet of Jesus

Through the decisions we make

As we bring about the Kingdom of God

The reign of Christ

To this world we live in

That God’s will may be done

On earth

As it is

In heaven

 God is Our Glory

“…you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high” (Psalm 3:3)

“To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27).

May our lives bring God glory

May our memorial services bring God glory

May people who know us

Can point to

God in us

as they see God’s work in us

Christ in us the hope of glory

God’s glory

Revealed in our lives

Revealed through our lives

May people laude God’s work

His miracles

His wonderful work

In us

In transforming us

To become His image-bearers

Where Christ is manifested in how we

Love

Care

Live

Give

Forgive

Believe

Sacrifice

Consider others better than ourselves

Are generous with our

Care

Time

Heart

Finances

Resources

Are gracious people who

Forgive continually not taking on offenses

Give others second and third chances

Always encourage others

See others through God’s eyes

Empower others to live out Christ in them

Being role-models of

Life lived for Christ

Life poured out for Jesus

Considering God’s heart and desires over our own

Our hearts being close to God’s

Our hearts conformed to Christ’s heart

Our hearts molten and united with Jesus’ heart

To love

To live

To forgive

To sacrifice

Being full of grace

God’s grace

Being able to love God because He first loved us

Being able to love ourselves with Christ’s love

Being able to love others with Jesus’ love

A libation of our life as an act of worship

Daily and continually

May Christ be glorified in our lives

May the Name of Jesus be lifted high through our lives

May God’s glory be seen in our lives

May this be our desire

Our ultimate aim

Jesus Will Do Whatever We Ask in His Name

“…whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it” (John 14: 12b-14).

Jesus promised that He would do

Whatever we ask

In His name

So that the Father may be glorified

In the Son

Not a blank check of promise

It is a promise with some key conditions

That we do not misuse His name for our selfish desires

We do not get to slap on Jesus’ name

when we demand blessings

We do not get to manipulate God into

giving us what we are asking for

Even if it is for “godly causes”

Healing

Comfort

Salvation

Provision

Protection

Deliverance

Effectiveness in ministry

Jesus gave this promise as He was leaving earth

to return to the Father

Jesus’ followers are to continue His work

To do even greater works than Jesus did

The works of Jesus is to do the work of God

To believe

To do justly

To love mercy

To walk in humility

Feed the hungry

Give drink to the thirsty

Show hospitality to stranger

Clothe the naked

Look after the sick

Visit the imprisoned

To look after the orphans and widows

To do good to the foreigners

To look after the needy

To give to the poor

Heal

Train

Teach

Correct

Comfort

Share God’s Good News

Deliver those in bondage

To be God’s

Ears

Eyes

Feet

Heart

Hands

Mouthpiece

When we pray in Jesus’ name

According to His will

Jesus will answer our prayers

When we pray in alignment with God’s will

The Son is glorified in the Father

The Father is glorified in the Son

We are invited into this glorious adventure

When we pray in Jesus’ name

In accordance to God’s will

The Joy of the Lord is Our Strength

“…Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10b)

God is pleased with us

He rejoices over us

When we have no one else to turn to

When we feel misunderstood

When we feel abandoned

When we feel neglected

When we feel dismissed

When we are desperate

When we feel betrayed

When we feel rejected

When we feel dejected

When we feel desolate

When we feel helpless

When we feel hopeless

When we feel worthless

When we feel powerless

When we believe in the One He sent

When we turn to Him

When we cling to Him

When we trust in Him

When we need Him

God rejoices over us because

We are His creation

His beloved

His masterpiece

His image bearer

His dearly loved ones

Knowing that

There is nothing we can do to make God turn away from us

There is nothing we can do to surprise what He already knows

There is nothing that could ever make Him reject us

God knows us totally

God loves us thoroughly

God accepts every aspect of us

God treasures every part of who we are

These truths enable us to

Have confidence

Have worth

Have hope

Have joy

Give us the strength

To live each moment

To go on each day

To walk confidently

To live boldly

To BE

Witnesses of His

Care

Power

Faithfulness

Redemption

Unrelenting love

God’s joy over us

Gives us the strength we need each moment and each day

The joy of the Lord is our strength

God is to Be Glorified

“Yours, LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all” (1 Chronicle 29:11).

God be glorified

God be magnified

God be revered and hallowed

God our Creator

Our Sustainer

Our Protector

Our Provider

Our Father

Our Lover

Our very present help and friend

The God Who is

Overseeing and sustaining the universe

Desires to be worshipped by us humans

Who live but in the blink of an eye

From dust we come and dust we return

Helpless

Fragile

Humans

Yet for the joy set before Him

Jesus willingly suffered the pain and the shame of the cross

Knowing that He will gain us as He laid down His life for us

We

Us

Humans

Are God’s treasured creation

His precious possession

We belong to Him

And He to us

How can we but respond with

Adoration

Gratitude

Worship

Praise

Love

Obedience

Offering up our lives back to God

Living daily for Him and not for us

Being living sacrifices

Giving Him our each moment

Hopes

Wishes

Desires

Longings

Yearnings

Disappointments

Powerlessness

Worthlessness

Hopelessness

Helplessness

Sufferings

Struggles

Setbacks

Pains

Tedium

Monotony

Joys

Victories

Successes

In every circumstance

We live to

Glorify God

Whatever we do or say

Whether in word or deed

We do it in the Name of Christ

Giving Him all the glory

So the world can see

God’s glory

God’s majesty

God’s Name being revered

Through our lives

As we live each moment

Onto God

Foibles and all
