The organization has its mandates and
expectations
on how we are to lead
It gives us its
Vision
Mission
Core values
Objectives
The Board pushes us from behind
Oversees us from above
To do its bidding
Afterall our job is to carry out its dictates
Even though we might be the head of
the organization
God calls us to be cunning as a
serpent and gentle as a dove
Jesus calls us to follow His lead in being
the “Master”
Whoever wants to be great must be a
servant
Just as Jesus came not to be served
But to serve
God calls the leaders to serve those
whom they are called to lead
Like Jesus did
When He sent the disciples ahead to give
them a break
while He dismissed the crowd after feeding
the 5,000
When Jesus washed the disciples’ feet
at the last supper
before He was going to be arrested
and crucified
Servant leadership
Leading with vision
Leading with purpose
Leading strongly
Leading humbly
Leading with compassion
Leading self-sacrificially
Leading by example
As I read your poem I remember how an African American Pastor humbly welcomed a young white man into his church, treated him with compassion as he patiently listened to his questions during bible study, only to be gunned down along with most of his congregation as they bowed their heads in prayer. May we follow his lead to welcome and love and serve even those who hate us.
