Urim and Thummin

Urim and Thummin are used by the High Priest

To discern God’s will

While there are various theories

I concur with this one

These two stones are smooth

And feel identical to the touch

Urim is light in color

While Thummin is dark

These small and smooth stones are placed inside the

Breastplate of the High Priest

The Breastplate has four rows of set of three stones each

Each bearing the name of one of the 12 tribes

When a leader from the community is seeking God’s will

The leader would come to the High Priest

And pose a question in the form of

“Yes” or “No”

The High Priest reaches into the Breastplate

And pulls out whichever stone

If the Urim is pulled out

The answer would be an “Yes”

If the Thummin is pulled out

The answer would be a “No”

Urim and Thummin were used

To cast lots on God’s will

Because the Holy Spirit has not descended upon God’s people

The Holy Spirit is given us after Christ’s death and resurrection

Once we have received Christ

God dwells with us in the form of the

Holy Spirit

God dwelling inside us

The Holy Spirit is

Convictor

Teacher

Guide

Glorifier

God living inside us

Whispers His

Truth

Love

Correction

Comfort

Direction

Guidance

So that we might know Him and

Be known by Him

And that our love might abound

More and more

In knowledge and

In depth of insight

Praise be to God for His Holy Spirit

The Living God

Living in us

No more need for the

Urim and the Thummin

God

Alive and living

Inside us

To give us

Clear direction

Teaching

And instruction

Of Whom God is

And His good and perfect will for us

The Great I AM
